Tellico Lake, TN

Tellico Lake was formed when Tellico Dam was built in 1979 to help nearby Fort Loudon Reservoir regulate flooding in downstream Chattanooga. Tellico Lake covers nearly 16,000 acres, has 357 miles of shoreline, and is 33 miles long. Boaters can explore the lake itself or, through a series of locks, boat from Tellico Lake all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. Many boaters, however, choose to limit their trips to downtown Knoxville or a University of Tennessee Vol’s football game.

On its shores, Tellico Lake has a reconstruction of the original Fort Loudon, after which the county is named. Built by the British during the French and Indian War, it was named for the fourth Earl of Loudon, John Campbell, the commander of British forces in America at the time. Other history attractions in the area include the Sequoyah Birthplace Museum, which honors the inventor of the Cherokee alphabet.

This community is home to residents from all walks of life, from singles to families to retirees, and offers living amenities to fit each group. There are eight main communities in Tellico Lake: Tellico Village, Kahite of Tellico Village, Rarity Bay, Rarity Pointe, Tellico Harbor, Harbour Place, Foothills Pointe and Thunder Pointe. All feature great mountain and/or water views and some include golf courses, gated communities, clubhouses, marinas, recreation centers and trails.
